Worm Gear and Worm Reducer Operation Mode and Material Application
Worm gear and worm reducer is a kind of reducer widely used in our daily life. Its advantage is that it has self-locking function. It is a widely used mechanical device with small size, high accuracy, convenient installation, low energy consumption and high transmission ratio.
It is well known that the working principle of a reduction gear is to reduce the speed, also known as a reduction gear. Worm and worm reducers increase torque by reducing the speed of return required by the reduction motor through its matching with the motor. The construction of worm gear and worm reducer can be divided into three parts: box, worm gear and bearing-shaft combination. These three components support and interact with each other to achieve work efficiency.
To improve work efficiency, worm gear reducer generally uses non-ferrous metal as worm gear and hard steel as worm. Aluminum die-casting box is used in this way with small size and light weight. It can well combine all the fittings and devices. Secondly, it can be directly mounted on the input shaft on the machine side to save a lot of installation space. It can be installed directly without driving parts, thus shortening the assembly time and reducing the overall cost. It is easy to debug and install. It combines motor or brake motor, stepless transmission and other motor devices. It is installed with flange or torque arm. It is convenient and easy to adjust speed as required in load. This reducer is a good choice in modern production transmission automation devices.
Material selection of worm gear and worm gear reducer: due to the large meshing friction of the worm drive and the fact that the size of the gear teeth of the worm gear hob can not be the same as that of the worm, the running-in can be gradually ideal if the gear teeth of the worm gear are machined to conjugate with the worm teeth; Therefore, the combination of material pairs has good antiwear, running-in and glue resistance. So worm gears are usually made of bronze or cast iron and may match hardened and grinded steel worm gears. Worm material is generally made of alloy steel or carbon steel. Most of the tooth surfaces of worm are hardened by heat treatment such as carburizing and quenching. According to the properties of heat treatment, they can be divided into carburizing rigid, surface or whole hardened steel, modulated steel and nitride steel. Worm gear material: worm gear teeth are generally made of copper alloy or cast iron. Their strength is much lower than that of steel worm, and the spiral strength of worm screw teeth is larger. Therefore, worm gear teeth are the weak link in worm drive.
