Measuring method for gear clearance of gear reducer
The tooth thickness (actual) dimension of the pinion and big gear of the gear reducer and the center distance dimension of the shaft plus the deviation of the corresponding gear elements determine the backlash j of the gear teeth, that is, the clearance between the non working tooth surfaces at the working diameter.
There are two methods to detect the gear clearance of gear reducer:
The gear shall be installed according to the service conditions (the center distance in actual use), and one of the fixed gears cannot rotate.
Method 1: Use a feeler gauge to plug the tooth profile clearance from the end face (another gear can be rotated). The maximum reading of the feeler gauge that can just be inserted is the tooth side clearance.
Method 2: Use a dial indicator to measure the head near the middle section of the movable gear profile, and rotate the movable gear. The reading of the dial indicator is the end backlash.
